Affordable treatment
We encourage you to obtain a mental health treatment plan (MHTP) from your GP so you can access Medicare rebates for eligible psychology sessions in Australia. It also helps ensure your GP stays informed about your mental health care, so they can continue to provide coordinated support alongside any other treatment you are receiving.
Online group therapy rebates
In regard to accessing therapy online (aka ‘telehealth’), it becomes a little tricky… but we’ll do our best to explain.
Although individual telehealth sessions can be accessed through Medicare for all Australians, group telehealth sessions can only be accessed by Australians living in regional, rural or remote areas.
To find out if your postcode is in a regional, rural or remote area, check here. You need to reside in a 'Modified Monash’ (MM) model area 4 to 7 to be eligible for the Medicare rebate for telehealth group sessions.
